Bermondsey Folk Festival 2019

On Sunday September 8th, 2019 there will be the 5th annual Bermondsey Folk Festival, an unmissable free London folk event.

Tickets for Taking The Biscuit with John Constable and Stick In The Wheel at Partizan Brewing are SOLD OUT

Headlining sets from Irish folk legend Andy Irvine, and Sheffield’s own Martin Simpson, with a host of performances from local and national acts. The festivities unfurl at 11.00am with a guided walk around Bermondsey by renowned poet and folklorist John Constable culminating at noon in The Biscuit Factory where the stage will be bustling with sweet songs.

The main event is followed by the evening session from 6pm at nearby Partizan Brewing where you will find Walthamstow’s finest Stick In the Wheel, headlining a stout line up of talented performers from the burgeoning local folk scene from 6pm.

Taking The Biscuit with poet John Constable

As part of the 2019 Bermondsey Folk Festival celebrations, , John Constable,, renowned poet and playwright, is leading a free guided walking tour through our streets, revealing hidden stories and forgotten heritage that will intrigue, delight and surprise.

John is a true authority on Southwark history, endowed with honours such as The Liberty of the Old Metropolitan Borough of Southwark and honorary fellow of South Bank University for his service to the arts and community. John will transport you back to the birth of the industrial revolution and the captivation Bermondsey has in abundance, if you only knew where to discover it.

The free walk starts at 11am with participants gathering from 10.45am at the churchyard of St James’s Church, one of the iconic landmarks in Bermondsey and the starting point of the tour which is to end at the Biscuit Factory for the main stage performances.

Bermondsey Folk Festival 2019 is our 5th and best year yet, with a great line-up starting with a guided tour then the main performances in The Biscuit Factory main stage.

There will be loads of dancing during the day with Sword Dancing from Thrales Rapper, Border Morris from Black Swan and traditional Irish dancing alongside attractions for all the family which will complement the day’s proceedings

Family friendly, community and food and drink areas

Our festival is a family festival. There will be free children’s activities and an opportunity to meet some friendly farm animals with Surrey Docks Farm Petty Zoo. The Community area will feature stalls by local groups

There will be fine beers from the world famous craft brewers on the Bermondsey Beer Mile will be served for those thirsty moments plus street food stalls, artisan cakes, coffee and refreshments also available.

Bermondsey Folk Festival 2019 at The Biscuit Factory is followed by the evening session from 6pm at nearby Partizan Brewing where you can join us for a free concert from nationally acclaimed folk band Stick In The Wheel, performing at 8.50pm

They will be headlining a stout line up of talented performers from the burgeoning local folk scene in one of the finer breweries of the Bermondsey Beer Mile, Partizan Brewing. This event is limited to over 18s due to licencing restrictions
